Coronal Polishing, Embedded TCC (CY71)  Technical Certificate of Credit

Embedded TCC

Embedded TCCs are certificates that students can earn while in a degree, diploma, or longer TCC program. Students cannot directly enroll into an embedded TCC program. Students wishing to pursue dental assisting as a career should consider the Dental Assisting Diploma [DA12] program.

The Coronal Polishing technical certificate of credit prepares graduates to perform the coronal polishing procedure as prescribed by Georgia Board of Dentistry. This procedure is limited to pediatric patients up to age twelve. Additional topics will include principles of coronal polishing including, but not limited to: armamentarium; proper clinician positioning and ergonomics, preferred polishing technique using a stable fulcrum, abrasive polishing agents commonly used in coronal polishing using a slow speed handpiece, indications for professionally applied topical fluoride agents for caries prevention and fluoride delivery methods.

Program Outcomes: Upon completion of this certification, participants will experience enhanced job opportunities and increased stability as certified assistants. This certification allows graduates to legally perform coronal polish procedures in various practice settings, expanding their scope of practice and employability. Additionally, graduates will be well-prepared to uphold OSHA and CDC standards for infection control and job safety, ensuring compliance and promoting a safe working environment.
