Dual Enrollment Gas Metal Arc Welder - MGM1 Technical Certificate of Credit


Campus Locations: High School

The Dual Enrollment Gas Metal Arc Welder Technical Certificate of Credit prepares students for welding careers in the MIG process. Topics include an introduction to welding technology, oxyfuel cutting techniques, and MIG welding techniques and processes.

Requirements:

  • Submit a completed application and application fee
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Submit official high school transcript or High School Equivalency transcript
  • Submit official college transcripts, if applicable
  • Present acceptable SAT or ACT scores taken within the last 60 months, or acceptable ACCUPLACER, COMPASS, or ASSET scores taken within the last 60 months. Documentation on a college transcript of successful completion of appropriate courses from a regionally accredited college or university may be accepted in lieu of test scores.

Topics include analysis of writing, applied grammar and writing skills, editing and proofreading skills, research skills, and oral communication skills.

Topics include fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions, measurement and conversion, geometric concepts, technical applications, and basic statistics.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 3 Lab 2 - 0 Lab 3 - 3 Pre-requisite(s): Program Admission Co-requisite(s): WELD 1000 Introduces fundamental principles, safety practices, equipment, and techniques necessary for metal heating, oxyfuel cutting, and plasma cutting. Topics include: metal heating and cutting techniques, manual and automatic oxyfuel cutting techniques, oxyfuel pipe cutting, plasma torch and theory, plasma machine set up and operation, and plasma cutting techniques.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 3 Lab 2 - 0 Lab 3 - 3 Pre-requisite(s): None Co-requisite(s): WELD 1000 Provides knowledge of theory, safety practices, equipment and techniques required for successful gas metal arc welding. Qualification tests, all positions, are used in the evaluation of student progress toward making industrial standard welds. Topics include: GMAW safety and health practices; GMAW theory, machines, and set up; transfer modes; wire selection; shielded gas selection; and GMAW joints in all positions.
