Flux Cored Arc Welder (FC61)  Technical Certificate of Credit


Campus Locations: Valdosta, Ben Hill Irwin, Coffee

The Flux Cored Arc Welder Technical Certificate of Credit introduces students to and provides instruction in flux cored arc welding practices. Topics include an introduction to the welding industry, oxyfuel cutting techniques, and flux cored arc welding practices.

Requirements:

  • Submit a completed application and application fee
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Submit official high school transcript or High School Equivalency transcript or college transcripts showing successful completion of 60+ semester credits or 72+ quarter credits
  • Submit official college transcripts, if applicable
  • Present acceptable ACCUPLACER, ACT, ASSET, COMPASS, PSAT, or SAT scores or GED score of 145 or higher or have one of the following: an associate degree or higher or have a HOPE GPA of 2.6 after the completion of 10th grade. Documentation on a college transcript of successful completion of appropriate courses from a regionally accredited college or university may be accepted in lieu of test scores.

This program is a HOPE Career Grant eligible program for students who are HOPE Grant eligible. The Career Grant award is a fixed amount per semester based on the number of credit hours taken. Maximum award per term is $500.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 3 Lab 2 - 0 Lab 3 - 3 Pre-requisite(s): Program Admission Co-requisite(s): None This course provides an introduction to welding technology with an emphasis on basic welding laboratory principles and operating procedures. Topics include: industrial safety and health practices, hand tool and power machine use, measurement, Oxyacetylene welding, and Welding career potentials.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 3 Lab 2 - 0 Lab 3 - 3 Pre-requisite(s): Program Admission Co-requisite(s): WELD 1000 Introduces fundamental principles, safety practices, equipment, and techniques necessary for metal heating, oxyfuel cutting, and plasma cutting. Topics include: metal heating and cutting techniques, manual and automatic oxyfuel cutting techniques, oxyfuel pipe cutting, plasma torch and theory, plasma machine set up and operation, and plasma cutting techniques.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 3 Lab 2 - 0 Lab 3 - 3 Pre-requisite(s): WELD 1000 Co-requisite(s): None Provides knowledge of theory, safety practices, equipment, and techniques required for successful flux cored arc welding (FCAW). Qualification tests, all positions, are used in the evaluation of student progress toward making industrial standards welds. Topics include: FCAW safety and health practices, FCAW theory, machine set up and operation, shielded gas selection, and FCAW joints in all positions.
