DOUGLAS, GA – Whether you're looking for a career change, a higher-paying job, or your first opportunity in commercial driving, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is making it easier to get started through its upcoming CDL Day event.

The College will host CDL Day on Monday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the One Stop Center on the Coffee Campus. The event is designed to help prospective students explore career opportunities, navigate the admissions process, and take the first step toward earning a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

During the event, attendees can receive one-on-one assistance with admissions, financial aid, and enrollment while learning how to obtain the Class A CDL learner's permit required before beginning the Commercial Truck Driving program. Visitors can also register for Wiregrass' five-week online CDL Learner's Permit Preparation Course, designed to help students prepare for the Georgia CDL learner's permit exam.

While many attendees are interested in careers in commercial truck driving, earning a Class A CDL learner's permit can also open the door to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College's Electrical Lineman program, offered exclusively at the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus. The eight-week program prepares students for careers with public and private utility companies through training in commercial driving, electrical safety, lineworker skills, workplace communication, and problem-solving.

Wiregrass offers flexible scheduling to meet the needs of working adults and busy families. Students can choose from morning, afternoon, or evening classes, all of which can be completed in just eight weeks. The Commercial Truck Driving program is open to individuals 18 years of age or older with a valid Georgia driver's license. A high school diploma or GED is not required.

"Bring your Class A CDL permit and DOT physical to this event and you can leave that day, registered for classes," said Mary Lou Clark, Student Success Coordinator at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. "A short 8 week course can change your whole life. Come see me and let me help you take that step!"

Eligible students may also qualify for financial assistance through the HOPE Grant, HOPE Career Grant, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and other scholarship opportunities that can significantly reduce the cost of training.

Community members are encouraged to stop by during either session to ask questions, meet with College staff, and discover how quickly they can begin training for a rewarding career.
