Nashville, GA – High School students from Berrien Academy can now say they are one step closer to their career goals, thanks to Wiregrass Tech’s Dual Enrollment program. These high school sophomores worked hard to receive their CPR certification: Isabelle Palmer, Alexis Skinner, Rachel Dees, Clarence Wardwell, Connor Owen, and Emily Alcover. They are enrolled in the Introduction to Healthcare class taught by Frank Barnett, Wiregrass Tech Pharmacy Technology Program Coordinator and Exposure Control Instructor. The healthcare students visited the Valdosta Campus of Wiregrass where they participated in a CPR class to earn their certification through the American Heart Association. While at the college campus, the students were able to tour some of the allied health programs including: Associate of Science in Nursing (RN), Practical Nursing (LPN), Pharmacy Technology, Opticianry, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, and Paramedicine. The students were able to visit the classrooms and lab areas.
The Dual Enrollment program through Wiregrass is available to high school students in grades 9th–12th. Students earn college credit at no cost to the students, and books are included. Parents and high school students who are interested can talk with their high school counselor to sign up, or Wiregrass High School Services Coordinators, by calling (229) 333-2100 or by email at highschoolservices@wiregrass.edu. Wiregrass has saved parents of Berrien County students $90,123 in tuition, fees, and book costs this school year. Berrien County students have earned 435 credit hours through Wiregrass this school year. The college credits do not count against the HOPE Grant Scholarship.
