Fitzgerald, GA – Andrew Scarborough has been named the new Industrial Systems Technology (IST) Instructor for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus. Scarborough has been teaching for the past seven years having taught at Southern Regional Technology College, and for Wiregrass Tech teaching Basic Residential Wiring at Telfair State Prison. He holds an Associate of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wiregrass Tech, and Basic Mechatronics Technician Technical Certificate of Completion (TCC), Basic Mechatronics Specialist TCC, and Mechatronics Specialist TCC from Southern Regional.
The Industrial Systems Technology program is making a return to the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus due to the need for more educated and skilled employees for local industries in the surrounding communities. “In this program, students will learn about electrical, machine programming, pneumatics, hydraulics, general maintenance, industrial/commercial and residential systems, networking, pumps, and plumbing,” shared Scarborough.
Scarborough found his way into this career when he was in high school. “I enjoyed my classes thanks to my instructors, so much that I wanted to keep doing more and more,” shared Scarborough. “I realized I enjoyed working with my hands and the feeling of accomplishment when I finally finished a project and everything works as it should. That feeling of wow I made that with my hands out of components that don’t really seem to go together.” Scarborough wants to instill in his students that they can do whatever they set their minds to and that as long as they have the drive to learn something new, nothing is beyond their reach.
You can meet Scarborough, learn more about this program, and tour the campus at the Open House event on June 14 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus. The event is being held during Free Application Week where those who apply for Fall Semester during that week will have their application fee waived. New students are being accepted into this program for Fall Semester, classes begin on August 15.
