Information on Student Loans
Private Lender and Georgia National Guard Service Cancelable Loans
Financing the cost of higher education requires careful planning. If your financial aid doesn’t cover all your costs (tuition, books, and fees), you may be able to use private lender loans and state administered loans. These options may help “bridge the gap” between your awarded aid and your total college expenses.
Eligibility often depends on your credit score, and you may also need a cosigner to quality.
*Important Note: WGTC does not participate in any Federal Student Loan Programs including PLUS, Perkins, or Direct Loans. If you have taken out federal student loans at any other schools, you can obtain information on repayment while attending WGTC by contacting your loan servicer on your studentaid.gov account.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Financial Aid Requirements:
- Have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file
- Have unmet financial need after subtracting your SAI (found on FAFSA Submission Summary) and all expected financial aid (Pell, HOPE, scholarships, etc.)
- Use the WGTC Net Price Calculator to estimate your cost of attendance and aid eligibility
- Student Enrollment Requirements:
- Be accepted to WGTC
- Be enrolled in an eligible program
- International Students:
- Must have a credit-worthy cosigner who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must provide valid U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service documentation
Loan Application Process:
- Apply and get approved by private lender of your choice
- After approval, WGTC Financial aid office will request applicant review and e-sign the Student Loan Information and Acknowledgement Form through the student’s Financial Aid portal
- Complete and sign U.S. Dept. of Education Private Education Loan Applicant Self-Certification form and return to lender
- The lender will then contact WGTC for loan certification
- Receive three required disclosure statements from the lender (as required by the Truth and Lending Act)
Tips:
- Borrow only what you need
- Understand all terms and conditions before signing anything
- Compare interest rates, repayment plans, and fees from multiple lenders
- Use federal and state aid before turning to private loans
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s Code of Conduct for Educational Loans prohibits the following:
