Any student that is currently Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, Veteran, or spouse/child of a current or former service member.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Welcomes All Veterans

Admissions:

The admissions application at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College permits students to self-identify their military affiliation at the time of their application. Students are encouraged to indicate their military affiliation in order to receive specialized benefit information and other important details relating to service in the Armed Forces regardless of discharge type.

Enrollment
  • Prior to Enrollment
    • Request all transcripts ( See Military Transcript Request)
    • Request a copy of your VA Certificate of Eligibility https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/vonapp (It takes 4-6 weeks before the requesting member receives the certificate of eligibility letter)
    • DD-214 Member- Copy 4
    • Meet with Veteran Support Services
    • Apply for FAFSA
  • Upon Enrollment
    • Meet with your advisor
    • Register for class/es (See Registration)
    • Bring a copy of your class schedule to the Veteran Support Services for enrollment certification
  • Registration
    • New Students
      • Complete the application for admission, or apply online, and be admitted to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College
      • Apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA (https://fafsa.ed.gov/)
      • Provide all required documentation to the Veteran Support Services
        1. Certificate of Eligibility
        2. Notice of Basic Eligibility from Commanding Officer ( Chapter 1606 only)
        3. VA Form 22-1995 (veterans) or VA Form 22-5495 (dependents) if student is a transfer
        4. Class Schedule
        5. Copies of military transcripts (See Prior Learning Assessment)
    • Changes in Registration
      • Any time your schedule changes, please notify the Veterans Support Services Office.
        1. A reduction in enrollment may decrease your VA payment amount and will cause an overpayment
        2. If an overpayment occurs, the student will incur a debt and it may affect future educational benefit payment
  • Returning Students
    • Provide a copy of new schedule
    • Complete FAFSA (Spring/Fall Semester)
    • VA Form 22-1995 (veterans) or VA Form 22-5495 (dependents) if there is a change of program
    • Copies of any new transcripts
    • IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY THE SCHOOL CERTIFYING OFFICIAL EACH SEMESTER THAT HE/SHE WISHES TO USE VERTERAN BENEFITS. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN YOUR BEING REMOVED FROM CLASSES FOR NON-PAYMENT AND WILL DELAY YOUR PAYMENTS FROM THE VA.

  • Veterans Credit Hour Classification
  • The Veterans Administration uses the credit hour classification scale below to determine your payment. The number of credit hours enrolled at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is reported to the VA by the Certifying Official.
      12 credit hours or more: Full Time
      9-11 credit hours: ¾ Time
      6-8 credit hour: ½ Time
      1-5 credit hours: ¼ Time

  • Standards of Progress for Veterans
    • Satisfactory: A student receiving VA benefits must make satisfactory academic progress by maintain a 2.0 GPA each enrollment period
    • Unsatisfactory: The first term a student falls below a 2.0 GPA will result in the student being placed on academic probation. If the student fails to meet the minimum standard the next semester, the student will be placed on academic dismissal. If a student does not maintain satisfactory progress, they will be reported to the VA for unsatisfactory progress.
    • Appeal: If a student believes they have mitigating circumstances that caused them to not make satisfactory progress, the may appeal to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College by obtaining an appeal form from the Financial Aid or Registrar's office.
  • GEM (General Education Mobile)
  • GEM is an exciting partnership between Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and Community College of the Air Force. Through GEM, students will take five CCAF required General Education courses through WGTC. Courses are offered via distance education.

    • Students are required to complete one course from at least one of the general education areas depending on the requirements remaining to complete your CCAF degree.
    • We offer distance learning courses approved for the Air Force Gem Program

  • Scholarships
  • As a veteran or family member of a veteran, there are numerous opportunities to receive further financial aid through various scholarships. Scholarships range from both national and local entities and can be based on status, service, and need. Please see the Veterans Support Office for further information and any scholarships that may be available.

  • Student Veterans Organization
  • The mission of SVA is to provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation. SVA is a coalition of student veterans groups on college campuses across the globe. These member chapters are the "boots on the ground" that help veterans reintegrate into campus life and succeed academically. SVA is open to both veterans and non-veterans who would like to be supportive of veterans. SVA's leadership consists of club officers and faculty advisors. ADVISORS: Tabora Temple, Paula Herring.
