Message from the President

WGTC Team: We are full-force as we prepare for the September 23-25, 2014 on-site reaccreditation visit by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Our accreditation with SACSCOC is vital to the college for many reasons, not the least of which is the ability to award federal financial aid to our students. But, in addition to financial aid access for students, the process of reaccreditation involves assessment and evaluation of the college at every level. We have the opportunity to continuously improve ourselves and to enhance student learning through a formal assessment process.

Many of you have already worked on the narratives for the Compliance Document and have contributed greatly to the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). I am excited about our QEP and what it means for faculty and students. We will present the QEP, Engage in Excellence, to the on-site team and then we have five years to implement our plan. The QEP provides an opportunity for every member of our college to be engaged either directly or indirectly. What an exciting time for our college!

I ask that each of you review the SACSCOC Reaffirmation website and the WGTC policy manual on the WGTC website. There will be many opportunities for learning more about the SACSCOC reaccreditation process and how you can contribute to the good of the college.

Dr. Belle Wheelen, President of SACSCOC, often states that we should remember that the SACS acronym should be thought of as “Students are Central to our Success” so that all of our decisions are student-centered. I agree with Dr. Wheelen and look forward to both a successful on-site visit and to creating a successful QEP.

Tina K. Anderson, EdD
